Having gotten past the pre-wedding-planning jitters, we have now set a date in August of this year. This is based on the requirements of various family members’ schedules (including our own), and also the availability of a particular 1930s historic chapel in the park. Which—unlike some other venues I could mention—does not require us to become confirmed Lutherans within the next few months. (Also, we like that it’s in a park.)

Congrats on setting a date! Getting past the jitters is important too, but once you get that date set, everything else is easy (just keeping saying that to yourself over, and over, and over again).
I thought it would become easier, but my idea for a BYOB/potluck reception is not going over too well for some reason.
(I'm just trying to be a good pre-wife and save money!)
We had a potluck for our wedding, and it was really great. Red-and-white checkered tablecloths for that Parisian picnic feel, and lots of fabulous food. My advice: don't forget to bring serving spoons, because the folk won't bring their own.
Related item: Aunt Frieda got a lot of kudos from the crowd (such as "Man, it's genius!") for bringing a bucket of KFC. :)
See, this sounds perfect to me.
And also very congenial!
