Anyone familiar with pumpkin farming? Our fertile spell has extended to everything in the vicinity except the pumpkin vines.
We got tons of pumpkin blossoms. And clearly the insects were doing something right, as the corn, watermelons, and cantaloupes all are bearing fruit (not to mention the tomatoes and peppers). The pumpkin vines, however, remain unfruited after at least a month of flowering.
I guess I could--I don't know, look it up online or something.

It sounds like you have either all male or all female pumpkin plants. The same thing happened to my sister a few years back when she was attempting to grow a small plot of squash. If you have same sex plants, they wind up flowering beautifully but never yield any vegetables.
That had occurred to me, as it is a small patch. (Although there are several vines.) Some day we'll have our own place where we can grow co-ed pumpkins.
And until then, you can proudly proclaim to people that you support diversity in the vegetable community! Seriously though, it always amazed me how much prettier (and bigger) the flowers on squash/pumpkins are when they're not bearing fruit.
And coincidentally enough, Dr. Lizardo called me this afternoon around 4:30 Eastern time to say that her water broke while they were at a pumpkin farm.
And according to her IM status, she is now "officially in labor!" =:o =:o =:o
We'll probably call it "Pettibone P. (for "Pumpkin").
What are you doing still posting, missy? I mean, _I_ would be, but that's me.
