Really, you _must_ enable post verification, or whatever it's called ... no one minds filling in one extra field these days ...
Well, I have some non-internet people in mind who--one never knows--might find their way here some day. I'm not bothered about removing a couple robot posts a day. (Although I do loathe and despise them.)
Furthermore--I do mind! It feels like being asked for my identification papers on a routine bus ride across town. It's one more annoying layer. (And sometimes keeps me out, too.)
Apparently, I don't want to give in to the pests by putting up pest nets. Maybe if they increased I would, but my discomfort is not at that level yet.
